State Refuses Request For Safety Inspection At Courthouse

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development is refusing to send safety inspectors to the Roderick Ireland Courthouse in Springfield.

The department says the state Trial Court and Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance are making sufficient efforts to address the building's suspected health hazards.

The Springfield Republican quotes state officials as saying the courthouse does not meet the criteria for an intervention.

Meantime the Governor says he is ok with a 100 million dollar rehab project of the building rather than a more than 200 million dollar total reconstruction effort.
