T'Birds Look To Solidify Positioning With Two Games Against Checkers

It's a big weekend for the Springfield Thunderbirds as they get ready for the American Hockey League's Calder Cup playoffs.

They take on the Charlotte Checkers tonight and Saturday at the Mass Mutual Center.

The Thunderbirds currently sit in second place in the AHL's Atlantic division.

They have already clinched a playoff spot for the first time in the T'Birds history. But the battle is to get a first round bye and the top two teams in each division get that.

The Thunderbirds are also trying to hold off Providence from that first round bye.

The Checkers are the divisions top team.

Springfield has eight games left. Tonight and Saturday against Charlotte. Rochester and Bridgeport next week on the road. Then coming back to play the Penquins and Bruins for their last two regular season home games. They then conclude the regular season on the road with games in Lehigh Valley and finally the Providence Bruins.
