Local Runners Make Their Mark On Boston Marathon 126

The Boston Marathon is just a couple of hours away. Almost every runner who ran a qualifying marathon successfully was allowed to run this marathon. Most Russian runners are being banned because of the conflict with Ukraine.

A bit of a historic marathon. This will be the 50th anniversary of the Women’s Division being run.

Officials say more than 30 million dollars will be raised for various charities.

In addition it means some 200 million dollars for the greater Boston economy.

There is also a pretty good contingent from Western Mass that are running, among them Springfield College graduate student Gianna Napoli who is running her first, as part of the Boston Athletic Association Charity Team.

Napoli injured her back and pursued fitness goals in recovery during the COVID-19 pandemic.
