State Senate Races Through Sports Betting Bill

The Massachusetts Senate has approved a bill that would legalize sports betting in the commonwealth.

The measure was approved in a voice vote on Thursday after hours of debate.

The proposal would not allow betting on college sports.

The bill would ban credit cards from being used for betting purposes as a consumer protection. That was offered by State Senator Eric Lesser.
State Senator Adam Gomez inserted a provision that would open up the process to small businesses throughout the state and not just casinos.

The Massachusetts House of Representatives previously passed its own sports-betting legislation, and now the two chambers will have to hash out the differences.
