Springfield Getting Ready For Breakfast

The preparations continue for this year’s World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast. After a couple of years off because of the pandemic, this year’s event is being planned for May 14th in downtown Springfield.

The event dates back to 1976 when there was a well publicized showdown for the title of World’s Largest Breakfast with Battle Creek, Michigan, the home of Kellogg’s. Now there are no bragging rights but the tradition continues.

This year, Monson Savings Bank is among the sponsors. More than 2o volunteers will join hundreds of others in mixing batter and serving beverages to the thousands which are expected.

“We are honored to help support the Pancake Breakfast, one of Springfield’s longest standing traditions and an event that brings the community together to have fun,” said Dan Moriarty, President and CEO of Monson Savings Bank. “Many of us here at Monson Savings grew up attending the Pancake Breakfast every year with our families so we are excited to sponsor and volunteer at the event this year.”

Admission to the event, beverages, and activities are free. Breakfast of pancakes and bacon is $3, $1 for children under 12, and free to 70,000 public school students receiving tickets in advance.
