State Rep Seeks Meeting With Hospital Over Layoffs

A Springfield State Rep is seeking answers after a round of layoffs at a Springfield hospital. State Rep Carlos Gonzales represents the north end of Springfield, a predominantly Spanish speaking area.

Gonzales is concerned after Trinity Health, the parent company of Mercy Medical Center laid off an unspecified number of employees, including nurses and interpreters.

Gonzales says that is troubling because there should be no language barrier in healthcare - particularly when lives are on the line.

He wants to meet with management to see if there is another way.

For its part the Health Care group says that most of the positions eliminated were unfilled jobs, but there were some severance packages. No word on when that meeting will take place.
