Gas Prices Batter Greenfield Budget

The Greenfield Police Department announce staffing changes caused by what it called "deep budget cuts" by the City Council, plus rising fuel costs.

Effective immediately, officers will double up in cruisers, which will be driven less.

"We have an estimated deficit in our fuel line item of $25,000 for FY22 as a result of recent spikes in fuel costs. We expect these fuel costs to continue to rise for FY23," according to a statement.

The City Council vote to slash the police budget was a result of a jury finding that a black officer was discriminated against.

Patrick Buchanan was awarded nearly half-a-million dollars earlier this month.

The suit also led to the police chief being placed on paid leave.
