RI Man Held Without Bail In Memorial Weekend Crash

The Rhode Island man charged with hitting a group of motorcyclists from Connecticut on Memorial Day weekend in Western Massachusetts is staying behind bars. The A Franklin County judge made the ruling against Ryan O'Farrell on Tuesday.

The state says O'Farrell, who was allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, poses a substantial danger to the community.

“He should not have been driving,” Assistant Northwestern District Attorney Jeremy Bucci, chief trial counsel for the DA’s office said. “It is the Commonwealth’s position that nothing short of incarcerating him would stop him from driving.” Bucci stated in court that one of the two children in the car with O’Farrell warned him he was driving erratically before the crash.

All of the bike victims have survived, but are dealing with a range of significant injuries.

Prosecutors said yesterday that one woman had to have her leg amputated.

O'Farrell is due back in court on June 29th.
