Retired Coach, Congressional Aid, Development Director Passes Away

Former chief development officer for the city of Springfield Kevin Kennedy has died. Kennedy was involved in a number of major projects, including the MGM casino, the CRRC rail car manufacturing plant, and the upgrade of Union Station.

Mayor Domenic Sarno said "There was no better ‘nuts and bolts’ guy when it came to not only driving an agenda, but most important, getting the job/project done. From major economic development projects from Union Station, MGM, Big Y warehouse expansion into Springfield to neighborhood projects, he was by my side. One thing I really appreciated was his dry sense of humor that would keep me grounded when I became ‘impatient’ with a situation."

Kennedy also coached Cathedral High School Boys basketball for years. He was also one of the aids for Congressman Richard Neal.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Kennedy was 70.
