Probe Continues Into Cannabis Worker Death

The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission is investigating a worker death at a Holyoke marijuana production facility from earlier this year.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the death of 27-year-old Lorna McMurrey at the Trulieve factory in January was attributed to occupational asthma due to exposure to ground cannabis dust.

The incident has intensified criticism of worker protections in the industry from union organizers and employees.

Trulieve was fined about 35-thousand dollars by OSHA for failing to train workers about the hazard, and for improper record-keeping.
