Holyoke City Council Seeks State Approval For Local Cannabis Inspections

Tuesday night, the Holyoke City Council voted unanimously to ask the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission for permission to inspect cannabis cultivation facilities at the local level.

This comes after the death of a worker at the Trulieve factory on Canal Street from occupational asthma due to exposure to ground cannabis dust.

City Councilor Kevin Jourdain says it is about safety both for the public and the employee.

It is unclear when the full Cannabis Control Commission would take up the issue.

The Holyoke Board of Health would handle the inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
