Baker: Leaving State Better Than When He Got It

Governor Charlie Baker is thanking Massachusetts residents for their support over the last eight years, saying there were some crazy times along the way.

Baker leaves office tomorrow after deciding not to seek reelection last year, and says he led the state without partisan bickering.

He praised state residents for their resiliency during the coronavirus pandemic, and took credit for the state's strong fiscal health and for trying to improve infrastructure.

Baker will take the traditional lone walk from the State House today, and will meet with Governor-elect Maura Healey for a customary exchange of gifts.

Before the Governor leaves office today he has a slew of bills that he has to get through. Many of those bills were passed yesterday and are local issues to particular communities.

Healey will be sworn in tomorrow.
