Bishops in the region have spoken with one voice about St Patrick’s Day.
It is ok to eat meat if you choose.
For the first time since 2017 St Patrick’s Day will fall on a Friday and the bishops are issuing a decree allowing for a dispensation for meat to be consumed.
The bishops say they recognize the tradition of the day and will allow Catholics to participate with corned beef and cabbage. But they are asking that Catholics in exchange do an act of penance in exchange for the dispensation.
The next time St Patrick’s Day will fall on a Friday in Lent in in 2028.
