Ruth E Carter made history at the Oscars last night. The Springfield native became the first black woman to win two Oscars.
His first Oscar came became the first black woman to win an Oscar for costume design in 2019 when she won for her work on The Black Panther.
Last night she became the first black woman to win two Oscars when she won the Oscar for the Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever.
In accepting the Oscar she thanked the fil's director Ryan Coogler as well as her 101 year old mother, who died earlier in the week.
She then asked star Chadwick Boseman to look after her mom Mabel.
Boseman died of cancer back in 2020. He was 43.
