ACLU Challenges North Brookfield Over Gay Pride Day Issue

In North Brookfield- the ACLU is asking Selectmen there to reconsider a controversial decision.

At issue is the selectmen rejecting a permit for a "drag show" that was going to be performed as part of the June Gay Pride event at the Town Common in June. One selectmen called the show "vulgar and rude."

But, the ACLU, in a letter sent to the board says that it is a pure matter of free speech and urged the governing body to take another look at the issue.

The town considers such performances as "adult entertainment" and therefore the special permit.

The ACLU disputes that too.

It is unclear whether the board will reconsider its decision.
