Italian Consulate Opens In Springfield

Officials celebrated the opening of a new Italian consul general's office in Springfield Monday.

The 25th floor of the Monarch Place office tower downtown was donated by businessman Paul Picknelly.

Consul General Arnaldo Minuti said Springfield has a history of Italian heritage, and that the office will foster the relation between the community and the country. Springfield will be the only office in Massachusetts besides the existing one in Boston.

Consulate offices in Worcester and Providence, Rhode Island will remain closed.
