AG: Lethal Use Of Force In Woonsocket Shooting Was Justified

The Rhode Island Attorney General's Office says a grand jury has ruled that an officer-involved fatal shooting in Woonsocket last year was justified.

Russell Dufault of Portsmouth was wanted for a kidnapping and felony assault in Little Compton.

The Rhode Island State Police and U.S. Marshals tracked the suspect to an SUV on North Main Street in Woonsocket on April 27th.

Dufault allegedly attempted to drive away and he was shot after striking a marshal and a state police detective.

The A.G.'s office says the actions of detectives Theodore Gibbons and Greg DeMarco and the marshal, who was not identified, were found to be lawful and legally justified.
