Chicopee City Councilor Delmarina López is announcing that she is running for mayor.
Lopez became the first person of color to be elected to the city council in 2021.
The 27 year old Lopez says she is running to make government more transparent and to make streets safer and to provide a realistic amount of money to what she says "is a defunded school system."
While she is the first person to formally run for the mayor's office this upcoming November,
John Vieau has confirmed he plans to seek a third term.
