POST Commission Sets Focus On Local Detective

A new bureau which has suspended dozens of police officers in Massachusetts is now going after a Springfield detective.

The Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission is taking initial steps to decertify Gregg Bigda, who was acquitted in a federal brutality case.

He had been accused of threatening to kill two juveniles who were suspected of stealing an undercover police car in 2016.

The Springfield Republican reports Bigda's status was changed from unpaid to paid leave after the acquittal in 2021.

Bigda's attorney says they are planning to appeal the POST Commission's actions.
