DOJ Says No To Death Penalty In Bulger Death Case

Federal prosecutors are not planning to seek the death penalty for the men accused of killing Boston mobster Whitey Bulger in prison.

Freddy Geas of West Springfield and Paul DeCologero of Lowell allegedly beat Bulger to death hours after he arrived at a West Virginia federal prison in 2018.

Bulger spent 16 years as a fugitive before being caught living a quiet life in California with girlfriend Catherine Greig in 2011.

He was convicted of multiple murders in 2013 and sentenced to life in prison.
