Program Takes Aim At Food Insecurity Statewide

The state has announced over 26-million dollars in grants designed to strengthen the food supply in Massachusetts.

The money will be used for grants to 165 projects across the state in an effort to prevent future food supply issues and disruptions with distribution of food. Recipients include farms, seafood farmers, school districts, food banks and other nutrition related programs.

Among the sites taking advantage of the program --Fruit Fair in Chicopee, where officials say the store will get some 500 thousand dollars to construct a greenhouse on top of the building and then to use that food to help people in need.

Governor Maura Healey says farmers are the backbone of food infrastructure, and it's critical to make short and long term investments to help strengthen food resiliency.
