West Nile Virus Reported In Mosquito Samples

West Nile Virus has been detected in mosquitoes trapped in South Boston and in West Springfield.

The positive tests from a mosquito pool at an undisclosed location was reported in both communities yesterday.

The virus can be spread from mosquitoes to humans through bites, and currently there have been no confirmed human cases in the city of Boston or in West Springfield.

While the risk of transmission remains low, the commission still encourages residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites.
