Legislature To Vote On Month Late State Budget

Legislative leaders have reached an agreement on a 56-billion-dollar budget for the current fiscal year that started July first.

Leaders of the state House and Senate reached a compromise last night, with votes on the budget expected today.

Among the agreements, a statewide permanent school lunch program.

Senate President Karen Spilka says the budget represents a major step forward for the state, and includes priorities of leaders from both chambers.

This is the 13th straight year the legislature has failed to enact a budget on time and has been forced to pass temporary funding bills.
