State Budget Does Not Contain Rail Expansion Monies

The state budget passed by the legislature yesterday does not contain funding towards expanding commuter rail service west of Worcester.

Governor Maura Healey had requested over 12-million-dollars in the budget for a new rail station in Palmer and for track improvements in the Pittsfield area.

The upgrades are keys to the possible addition of regular commuter rail service from Worcester to Springfield and Pittsfield.

The state and private rail services Amtrak and CSX have applied for over 100-million-dollars in federal funding for track improvements between Worcester and Springfield.
