More details have been released on Monday's deadly shooting in Springfield.
A man identified as Victor Nieves allegedly forced his way into a neighbor's apartment at a multi-family home on Berkshire Avenue.
Nieves allegedly shot and killed Kim Fairbanks and her dog, and also shot and wounded several of Fairbanks' grandchildren.
One of them, a ten-year-old girl, remains in critical condition at Boston Children's Hospital. Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni called the shooting one of the most heinous and cowardly acts that he has seen during his time in the office.
Springfield police superintendent Cheryl Clapprood says support is being provided for the officers who first responded to the tragic scene.
