Two Police Officers Acquitted In Bar Brawl Case

The final two defendants in the long-running prosecution of a fight between Springfield police officers and civilians were acquitted yesterday.

The incident happened at Nathan Bill's Bar and Restaurant in Springfield in 2015.

Officers Shavonne Lewis and Derrick Gentry-Mitchell were found not guilty of perjury, filing a false police report and misleading investigators in a Hampden Superior Court bench trial.

Springfield police superintendent Cheryl Clapprood expressed hope that this puts an end to the saga which has caused a great deal of stress for the officers, their families and the department.
