Voters Head To Polls To Decide Mayors, Issues

Springfield's Mayoral election remains heated on Election Day, with allegations of voter fraud against the challenger.

Incumbent Mayor Domenic Sarno faces longtime City Council member Justin Hurst, but the main issue is a charge that Hurst has committed voter fraud.

The charge stems from sworn affidavits from city election officials and surveillance video that appear to show representatives of the Hurst campaign paying people to vote for the challenger during the final days of the early voting period.

State Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin says an investigation is underway, which could lead to criminal charges. Hurst has denied the allegations.

That isn't the only race on the ballot. In Easthampton, where there is no mayoral race, voters will be asked to consider "Ranked Choice Voting" for the future.

In East Longmeadow- voters will decide between two options for a new high school. The estimated cost of the project is expected to be close to 200 million dollars.

There are also mayoral races in Agawam, Chicopee and Greenfield in contested races.
