Power outages that resulted from Monday's storm are largely under control. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency reports approximately 850 customers remain without power in the Springfield area, with just a handful of outages remaining in East Longmeadow, Hampden, and Wilbraham. Statewide about 260-thousand homes and businesses were without power at the height of the storm.
Greenfield has become one of the communities hardest hit by Monday's storm. The city remains under a State of Emergency, due to rising waters that flooded several streets. The Green and Deerfield Rivers are said to be receding, but authorities are keeping watch on their levels. The National Weather Service forecasts rain to continue today before tapering off to rain and snow showers. In addition, sewage overflows for these waterways and the Connecticut River have come to an end.
The city of Westfield has closed the Loomis Street Bridge due to flooding conditions. Officials made the announcement on Monday and said Loomis Street will be shut down until Walker Brook recedes enough that MassDOT can inspect the bridge. Detours will be in place; the expectation is the bridge will be closed for up to two days.
Most of the power is on in Western Mass. Some scattered outages in the Wilbraham, Ludlow, Palmer area as well as East Longmeadow are still being worked on.
