MassDOT is advising the public to plan for New Year's holiday weekend travel.
Higher than normal volumes of traffic are expected.
Drivers are encouraged to check websites for real-time travel information on major roads statewide.
Additionally, all scheduled road construction will be suspended from 5 a.m. Friday until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2nd.
And, when drivers do hit the roads- they will see generally lower gas prices.
Triple A reports the average gallon of gas statewide is $3.23 a gallon.
In Western Mass it averages out to about $3-03 a gallon.
On The Cape its about $3-30 a gallon.
In Rhode Island the average price is $3-11 a gallon.
