There's been a backlog of patients waiting to be discharged from hospitals to skilled nursing or rehabilitation facilities in Massachusetts.
State data found on any given day last month about 750 people were still in hospitals awaiting transfer.
The Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association blames insurance complications, inadequate insurance and staffing shortages.
Health officials warn the problem could get worse this winter with an increase in respiratory illnesses including COVID and RSV.
