State School Boss To Resign Next Month

State Education Commissioner Jeff Riley is stepping down from the position next month.

The leader of state elementary and secondary education announced yesterday that he will be leaving the post on March 15th.

Riley has led the state's K through 12th grade schools for the last six years, including during the major disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The 53-year-old Riley says his obligations to his aging parents require a level of commitment that is not compatible with the job as commissioner.
