In Shrewsbury, in central Massachusetts, the fire department says it could have been a lot worse.
An air fryer begins to smoke and then catches on fire at an apartment.
Firefighters say they quickly put out the blaze before it was able to spread into cabinets and ventilated the rest of the building.
Officials say that a review finds that the fryer was a Power XL Brand which was subject to a recall.
A fire department spokesman says that the resident had been paying attention and did have a smoke detector inside which kept damage to a minimum.
The device has been turned over to the Consumer Product Safety Commission to determine whether the device was defective or not. There were no injuries reported.
