Hall of Fame basketball star and TV commentator Bill Walton is dead at the age of 71 after a long battle with cancer.
In the 1970s, Walton led the UCLA Bruins to two national championships under head coach John Wooden.
Walton would go on to win two NBA championships with the Portland Trail Blazers in 1977 and the Boston Celtics in 1986.
He played four seasons in Portland, four with the San Diego Clippers, and two years in Boston.
He was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 1993.
Walton was born in La Mesa, California, where, late in life, he remained active and often outspoken about local politics.
