The Springfield branch of the NAACP is calling for the resignations of School Superintendent Daniel Warwick and Chief Schools Officer Kim Wells.

Warwick and Wells were recorded on a phone conversation, making disparaging and racially insensitive remarks about School Committee Member LaTonia Monroe Naylor.

Warwick is already retiring at the end of the year and will be replaced by Dr. Sonia Dinnall.

LaTonia Monroe Naylor will address the matter during a news conference later today.

Meantime, Springfield's Mayor is reacting to the comments School Superintendent Daniel Warwick made about School Committee Member LaTonia Monroe Naylor in a recorded phone conversation.

Mayor Domenic Sarno says the comments are both shocking and disappointing.

He says Superintendent Warwick's remarks speak for themselves, and the comments - even made out of frustration -- are totally unacceptable and unprofessional.

The mayor has reached out and spoken to Naylor and he's calling for a School Committee retreat to be scheduled, especially with a new School Superintendent taking the helm.

He says the goal is to restore respect and harmony for the betterment of the school system.
