John Cartledge is the new police chief in Northampton.
He was sworn-in succeeding former Chief Jody Kasper, who left earlier this year to be the chief on Nantucket.
Cartledge is a Northampton native who started his career with the department in 1985 as a patrol officer.
Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra said the town is fortunate to have someone of his caliber leading the police department.
