Brush Fire Blamed On Illegal Burning

Investigators say a brush fire in Agawam that sent one person to the hospital yesterday was started by illegal burning.

Authorities said a resident tried to burn yard waste and leaves on Franklin Street without a permit.

However, the blaze grew out of control, spreading to a home, two sheds, and a fence.

The resident was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Fire officials are reminding residents that a permit is required to burn yard waste, and only certain materials are authorized for burning.
