Alysa Liu Wins World Women's Figure Skating Title

An American has won the women's figure skating world title for the first time in 19 years.

Alysa Liu beat out three-time world champion Kaori Sakamoto of Japan for the title in Boston late Friday night.

The U.S. put three women in the top five at the world championship for the first time since 2001.

During her performance the 19-year-old Liu, from Oakland, California, landed seven triple jumps.
