Holyoke Files Resolution Denying Sanctuary City Designation

The City of Holyoke is looking to reject its designation as a sanctuary city.

The City Council has introduced a resolution to officially declare it is not a sanctuary jurisdiction, which is defined by the Department of Justice as a place that "impedes enforcement" of federal immigration laws.

Council Kevin Jourdain says the resolution is needed as sanctuary cities are at risk of losing federal funding.

Mayor Joshua Garcia said it's a "commitment to humanitarian values while adhering to state and local laws."
