The Cape Cod and Southeast Massachusetts Rabies Task Force will begin to distribute oral rabies vaccine baits by helicopter in Barnstable and Plymouth counties next week.
Starting Tuesday baits will be dropped in several locations on the Cape including Barnstable, Bourne, Sandwich and Falmouth.
The baits will be distributed in areas that raccoons, foxes and coyotes frequent, away from areas where people and domestic animals are likely to find them.
The baits are typically not harmful, but anyone who finds one should call 877-722-6725 to report its location.
