Baystate Health has merged with Mercy Medical Center in a deal that has been generally praised by state officials but has many patients and doctors with questions.
Some doctors suggest that patients may have fewer options.
Springfield Mayor Dom Sarno says that he is thankful that the deal means a two-hospital system for the city.
Congressman Richard Neal says that it will expand services to patients.
Bishop william Byrne says that he has mixed feelings. He is pleased that the quality of care for the area will continue- but that it is sobering that the area is losing the last catholic run hospital.
The deal needs both state and federal approval and would not take effect until November.
