State Senate Proposing Bill to Block ICE from State

The state Senate is proposing a bill to block ICE from making arrests at schools, daycares, and courthouses.

On Thursday, Democratic leaders unveiled a wide-ranging bill aimed at halting ICE operations in Massachusetts.

Senators are expected to approve their version of the bill next week, setting up negotiations with the House, which passed its own version in March.

Governor Maura Healey included a similar provision this year to ban ICE from entering churches, schools, and other places.

Senators are also seeking to limit collaboration between local law enforcement and ICE.
