MA Supreme Court Rejects Rent Control Question

Voters are not going to have a chance to decide the fate of a ballot question to enact statewide rent control in Massachusetts.

The state Supreme Judicial Court issued a ruling today rejecting the question because it would have exempted properties owned by religious groups.

Under the state constitution certain matters, including religion, cannot be subject to an initiative petition.

Rent control opponents had filed a lawsuit to keep it off the ballot.

Supporters said they will continue efforts to deliver relief to tenants.
