West Springfield is getting nearly 133-thousand dollars from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to help cover public safety costs tied to casino activity.
The grant will help pay for eight firefighter and EMS positions, four police officers, and three dispatchers through June of next year.
Town officials say increased traffic, crashes, and calls for service have put added pressure on emergency crews since MGM Springfield opened.
Mayor Will Reichelt says the funding will benefit residents, businesses and visitors.
