On this day, it was official. Rhode Island received its charter from King Charles II. Nearly twenty years after the Patent of 1643, the Royal Charter confirmed all the unique powers that had been granted to its people. Rhode Island was unique in granting religious freedom and self governance. You will be amazed at how Rhode Island set the stage for what would become the foundation of this great nation.
