The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is confirming the presence of West Nile virus in a sample of mosquitoes that was taken in Pittsfield.
City officials say land within a mile radius of Routes 41 and 20 will be sprayed with pesticide on Thursday night to reduce the mosquito population and the potential for infection.
There has been one reported human case of West Nile in Berkshire County since 2011.
