"Me" The Problem---"Me" Is Also The Answer

A lot of people are trying to figure out where the immigration battle ends.

Others are asking  why The President is going about his business the way he is.

Others ask why their state is the way it is.

I have an answer.  I know.  The problem with all these issues is easy.

“Me”.

“Me” is the reason for all our issues going awry.

One “Me” wants open border.

Another “ Me” wants it closed.

One “ Me” wants higher taxes.

Another “Me” wants lower taxes.

One “ Me” is always right.

Another “Me”  according to that Me is always wrong.

And since it is all about “Me” the “us” part of the world is told that they don’t count.

The fact of the matter is that if everyone would just stop talking for a day or two the issue is quite easy to solve.

The problem here is that the one thing that should be done, isn’t being done.

What if POTUS were to pick up the phone and invite Nancy Pelosi, Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer to the White House.  The President puts a big pitcher of diet coke on the table and says “Guys, come up with a solution that is agreeable to everyone and oh by the way there are no bathrooms working in the White House today.”

Think something would get done.

Here is the problem with the immigration story.  We have personalized the story so much to whatever sanctuary is open to whomever that we are forgetting what the real problem is.

President Jimmy Carter when he had both sides what turned out to be the Camp David Peace Accord were as far away from success as one could get.  And, Carter took at different tact.  Every morning the door would open and he could come in and smile and tell both sides what a great day it was going to be and a minute or two he would leave.  Eventually the two sides got something done if for no other reason they were growing tired of the confident smile President Carter had.

But both sides got something done because they took the media out of it and they got something done in a small group.

If the same thing happened here with immigration it could be a big hit again.

President Carter once said, “You should go out on a limb...that’s where all the fruit is.”

Let’s try something different on the issue of immigration between Republicans and Democrats.

That’s where the success will lie.
