Court Challenge Of Springfield School System Over

A lawsuit against the city of Springfield and its school department regarding the placement of students in alternative schools is not being allowed to continue.

A federal judge in Springfield ruled last week that the Parent-Professional Advocacy League and Disability Law Center don't have standing to sue over claims that students are being sent to an inferior school because of mental health disabilities.

A student sued because of being placed in the Springfield Public Day School; the suit argued there was entitlement to receiving behavioral services at neighborhood schools.

The court ruling indicated students must go through an administrative process to get into a neighborhood school.
